Alex Iwobi has emerged as Nigeria’s key midfield force at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, leading all players in line-breaking passes during the knockout stages, according to Opta. The Super Eagles star completed 36 such passes, with 22 against Mozambique in the Round of 16 and 14 versus Algeria in the quarter-finals.
His influence helped Nigeria secure a 4–0 win over Mozambique and progress through central areas. Against Algeria, Iwobi reached a historic milestone, equalling a national AFCON appearance record held by Austin Okocha, Muda Lawal and John Obi Mikel, with 22 matches. He could break it in the semifinals soon.
