The Ivorian defender did not feature in Roma’s match against Lecce (4–0) on Monday 31 August, which counted towards the second matchday of the Italian Serie A.

Evan Ndicka experienced a muscle problem during the warm-up and had to head straight back to the changing rooms. Beyond this match, the Ivorian international’s availability is now in doubt for Roma’s next match against Atalanta on 5 September.

This concern extends beyond the Italian club. This muscle strain comes at a sensitive time for Ivory Coast. The Elephants are set to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in a few weeks’ time, with two fixtures in Group C.

Hervé Renard’s side will host Ghana on 24 September on matchday one, before travelling to Somalia on 29 September for matchday two. Ivory Coast will then play a friendly against Cameroon on 3 October.

Evan Ndicka is a key player in the Ivorian team’s line-up. His fitness will therefore be closely monitored in the hope that he will soon return to action with Roma and take part in the Elephants’ next training camp.
