Ivory Coast ends its World Cup preparations on a positive note
The Elephants secured a victory against Philadelphia Union II in a friendly match.
The Ivorian team played their final friendly as part of their preparations for the World Cup, which kicks off on 11 June. The Ivorians dictated the pace against Philadelphia Union’s reserve side in a friendly played over three periods. Evann Guessand opened the scoring in the 9th minute, giving Ivory Coast the lead.
Dominating the game, the Elephants doubled their lead later on. Ange-Yoan Bonny converted a penalty in the 40th minute to make it 2-0. The Ivorian goalkeeper, Alban Lafont, distinguished himself by saving a penalty.
Ivory Coast now look forward to their first group stage match, scheduled for 15 June against Ecuador. The Elephants will play their second match against Germany on 20 June before concluding the group stage against Curaçao on 25 June.
