Ivorian winger Yan Diomande is struggling to settle at Real Madrid
Signed this summer for €140 million, the Ivory Coast international is still struggling to make his mark in José Mourinho’s squad.
Yan Diomande, Real Madrid’s most expensive signing this summer, is off to a sluggish start. Madrid fans are beginning to grow impatient regarding the Ivorian international’s adaptation.
In four La Liga matches since his arrival, Yan Diomande has not made a single start and his tally remains at zero for both goals and assists. A tentative start, a far cry from the expectations placed upon him.
The Ivorian international’s low-key start does, however, contrast sharply with his performance last season. Playing for Leipzig in the German Bundesliga, Yan Diomande posted impressive statistics, with 12 goals and 8 assists. These performances earned him accolades in the German league.
However, Spain is not unfamiliar territory for the 19-year-old Ivorian winger. Before moving to Germany, Yan Diomande had already played in La Liga for Leganes during the 2024–2025 season. He scored two goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances.
This experience could subsequently help the Ivory Coast international settle in at Real Madrid, where he will need to impress José Mourinho.
