Ivorian Ligue 1: San Pedro suffer opening defeat to Zoman FC

The San Pedro-based club were beaten in front of their home crowd at the Laurent Pokou Stadium on Sunday 27 September in their first match of the 2026–2027 season.

FC San Pedro got off to a poor start in the new season of the Ivorian professional league. Hosting Zoman FC this Sunday at the Laurent Pokou Stadium, the Ligue 1 runners-up suffered a defeat.

The home side nevertheless held firm for much of the match. The two teams fought a fierce, goalless battle in the first half.

The tension continued after the break. Despite attempts from both sides, it took a long time for the deadlock to be broken.

The breakthrough came from Sodji Romuald for Zoman FC. The Ivorian striker found the back of the net in the 73rd minute to give his side a 1–0 lead.

Caught off guard, FC San Pedro tried everything to catch up with the visitors. But the home side could not find the resources to level the score.

Zoman FC held on until the final whistle to claim all three points in their opening match of the season. As for San Pedro, they will have to wait until the second matchday to hope for their first win of the new season.
