It's official: Siyabonga Ligendza prepares for a new experience away from South Africa Siyabonga Ligendza

Alfreton Town FC have announced the signing of South African striker Siyabonga Ligendza ahead of the 2025/26 English football season. The 22-year-old joins from National League South club Eastbourne Borough, marking Alfreton’s first summer acquisition.

Ligendza, a product of Cardiff City’s academy, expressed his enthusiasm about the transfer, which will see him compete in England’s sixth division at the Impact Arena. He initially joined Eastbourne Borough on loan in early 2024 before making the move permanent from AFC Fylde.

The Leicester-born forward began his career at Cardiff City at just eight years old, progressing through their youth ranks before signing a professional deal in 2021. During his time with Cardiff’s development squads, he scored an impressive 40 goals in two-and-a-half seasons.

Holding dual Welsh and South African citizenship, Ligendza was shortlisted for South Africa’s 2021 Olympic squad but missed the Tokyo Games due to injury. His international eligibility remains open, having previously represented Wales at U-18 level, while England and Germany—his father’s homeland—could also have been options.

After spending a year in Pretoria with his grandmother, Ligendza now aims to reignite his career at Alfreton. “I’m excited to join and eager to help the team achieve its targets this season,” he said. The move offers a fresh opportunity for the talented forward to showcase his potential in English football’s lower tiers.
