It's all about love. Tour de France champion gives the real reason for missing the Olympics
Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar, who won the Tour de France this year, revealed the real reason he will not compete in the 2024 Olympics.
Previously, the media claimed that it was simply due to the athlete's fatigue, but it turns out to be more complicated. Pogačar stated that he was very upset because the Slovenian Olympic Committee did not include his girlfriend, Urška Žigart, in the Olympic team.
“I am very upset about my girlfriend not making it to the Olympics. She is the only Slovenian female cyclist who has ever placed in the top 10 in week-long World Tour races. She definitely deserved this spot,” Pogačar said.
This recent victory in the Tour de France marked the 25-year-old athlete’s third career win in the race.
The men's road race at the 2024 Olympics will take place on July 27.
