Italian Press Criticizes Santiago Giménez's Milan Move Amid Goal Drought
Santiago Giménez's arrival at AC Milan was one of the most talked-about transfers of the January window, but the Mexican striker is now under scrutiny in Italy due to a lack of goals. According to a recent piece in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Giménez's return of just three goals has raised concerns about the €28.5 million investment made by the club.
The article calculates that each of his goals has effectively cost Milan €9.5 million, leading to questions about his impact. Once considered a top winter signing, the former Feyenoord striker has now dropped in the pecking order, behind Tammy Abraham and even Luca Jovic in coach Sergio Conceição’s plans. “From being the first-choice, Giménez has become the third solution,” the Italian outlet noted.
Despite the criticism, Milan are not considering parting ways with the 23-year-old. Club officials remain optimistic that Giménez can bounce back and regain his form, citing his early performances in multiple competitions as evidence of his potential.
With crucial fixtures still ahead, the Rossoneri are hopeful that the Mexican international will rediscover his scoring touch and validate the club’s sizable investment in his talent.
