Italian champions knock on Newcastle's door for their record signing
The transfer market is heating up in Naples, and the name of the latest target is a genuine bombshell. Napoli have set their sights on Newcastle's most expensive signing ever, and the Magpies now have a decision to make.
Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli made contact with Newcastle over the last 24 hours to ask about Nick Woltemade's availability on a loan deal. The Serie A champions also have an easier option in Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, and the decision now rests with Newcastle.
The interest from Naples does not come out of nowhere. Woltemade, 24, only joined Newcastle in the summer of 2025 from Stuttgart for a club record fee of around €75 million, but his debut season in England did not go to plan, and reports this week claimed the German striker is unhappy and open to a fresh start after just one year. Newcastle tied the towering forward down until June 2031, and Transfermarkt currently values him at €55 million. Napoli, meanwhile, are reshaping their attack after winning the Serie A title: Romelu Lukaku has left for Fenerbahce, Rasmus Højlund's move from Manchester United was made permanent for €44 million, and Massimiliano Allegri wants another striker to rotate with the Dane. Marc Guiu, the 20-year-old Chelsea forward who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, remains the priority, with the Italians reportedly ready to pay around €16 million, while Woltemade shapes up as the ambitious alternative. The final word belongs to Newcastle, who visit Tottenham on Saturday in the Premier League.
The situation could move quickly, as the Italian window enters its decisive days and Napoli push to hand Allegri a complete attacking rotation. It's worth noting that Woltemade is a full Germany international with 12 caps and four goals, and Newcastle broke their transfer record to sign him just twelve months ago.
