"It was fair": Luís Figo comments on decision not to award Ballon d'Or to Vinícius
Former Real Madrid player Luís Figo shared his perspective on the Ballon d'Or results. Unlike many ex-players from the club, Figo expressed his belief that Rodri’s victory in the race for the prestigious award was well-deserved.
Details. Figo emphasized that Rodri's performances for Manchester City last season were pivotal, especially in helping his team achieve significant success.
"We should not doubt the value of what a Manchester City player accomplished last season. I think it was fair. This is a vote by over 100 journalists based on specific criteria, and the decision must be respected.
It's natural for those who didn’t win to feel disappointed, but I believe we should not question the worth of what the winner achieved last season," Figo added.
Context. Manchester City midfielder Rodri won this year’s Ballon d'Or, sparking widespread criticism from the footballing community. Many argued that Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior was more deserving of the accolade.
