The story revolves around one of the race participants, British skier Gabriel Gledhill, who, having lost all chances of winning, decided to join the fans for some drinks right in the middle of the race.
Gabriel instantly won over the crowd, with fans running alongside him on the course and handing him alcoholic drinks, which the athlete gladly accepted:
“I had to accept every offer that came my way. After a while, I was pretty drunk. It was a lot of fun. There were some pretty strong drinks. I was offered Jägermeister, and I agreed. This was one of the most entertaining events I’ve ever been a part of,” the athlete shared.
In the end, Gabriel Gledhill finished 67th, trailing the winner by a staggering 20 minutes and 16 seconds. His finish was so late that he had to cross the line together with the women’s group, who set off 45 minutes after the men’s start.
This race will surely be one to remember for Gabriel, even though he never managed to reach the podium.
