It is now known how the Ethiopian athlete who fell during the competition is feeling
During the 3000 meters steeplechase final at the 2024 Olympics, a harrowing incident occurred involving Ethiopian athlete Lamecha Girma.
He tripped over a barrier at high speed, lost his balance, fell, and struck his head on the track. As a result, he was carried off the stadium on a stretcher and hospitalized.
According to the athlete's coach, Lamecha is in good condition. Ethiopian team photographer Aman Ahmed released a photo of Girma from the hospital.
Earlier, L'Equipe reported that the Ethiopian had lost consciousness on the track but regained it within a few minutes and was able to speak. He was then transported to the hospital for further examination.
It is worth noting that Girma set a world record in this event in June 2023 at the Diamond League in Paris with a time of 7 minutes 52.11 seconds. He also won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
As for the race at this Olympics, the victory was claimed by Moroccan Soufiane El Bakkali, who completed the distance in 8 minutes 6.05 seconds, successfully defending his 2020 gold medal.
