It is known who will lead Al-Ittihad. Marseille and Sevilla have been interested in the coach
Argentinian tactician Marcelo Gallardo is set to take the helm of the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, as announced by journalist Herman Garcia Grova.
According to sources, negotiations regarding the details are currently underway.
It is worth noting that the head coach of Al-Ittihad, Nuno Espirito Santo, was dismissed due to a conflict with the team's star player, Karim Benzema. Al-Ittihad suffered a 0-2 defeat in the AFC Champions League match against Al-Kuwait. Sources indicate that during the halftime of this encounter, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo clashed with forward Karim Benzema.
Marcelo Gallardo had been at the helm of his native River Plate since 2014. In his inaugural year, he secured the South American Cup, ending the club's 17-year drought in international trophies. In 2018, he led the team to triumph once again in South America's premier club tournament, making him the most successful coach in River Plate's history.
The elation from this success was marred by the team's disappointing performance in the Club World Cup, where the Argentinian club sensationally lost in the semifinals to Emirati side Al-Ain.
Nevertheless, River Plate managed to overcome this setback and in 2019 reached the final of the Copa Libertadores, narrowly succumbing to Flamengo in the dying minutes.
