"It feels like a derby" – Pep Guardiola on upcoming clashes with Real Madrid
On Friday, January 31, the UEFA Champions League draw took place, pairing Manchester City against Real Madrid. The Citizens' head coach shared his thoughts on the draw.
Details: According to Guardiola, these matchups are beginning to resemble a derby, as the two sides will face each other in the knockout stage for the fourth consecutive year.
Quote: "Real Madrid? It already feels like a derby. We’ve been meeting them for four years in a row. It’s going to be a tough battle," commented Pep Guardiola.
Interestingly, Manchester City seems to have overcome its crisis, having suffered just one defeat in January—against PSG. However, Guardiola continues to reference what appears to be a past storm.
The Spanish coach insists that while Rodri’s absence was not the only reason for City’s struggles, it was the most significant factor.
Reminder: Today, all UEFA Champions League preliminary playoff round matchups for the 2024/25 season were confirmed.
