‘It distorts the tournament’ - six-time Grand Slam champion on Djokovic's long match
Novak Djokovic defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti in a match that lasted for 4.5 hours and concluded around 3 a.m.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker shared his thoughts on such a lengthy match. While he holds great respect for Novak Djokovic after the five-set epic with Lorenzo Musetti at 3 a.m., Becker questioned the excessively long match.
"In my opinion, it's too late and distorts the tournament. When players go to bed, it's already seven or eight in the morning. After this, you can forget about the weekend. Players hardly get any rest, and I don't think it's right.
What if Djokovic and Musetti had said after the second set that they wanted to stop and continue the game the next day? I can't imagine that the tournament organizers would have kicked them out," he stated in a comment to Eurosport.
Novak Djokovic will play against Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16 of the Roland Garros tournament. The match will take place on Monday, June 3rd.
