Championship representative Coventry unexpectedly defeated Wolverhampton away in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup (3:2). The visitors were trailing until the 97th minute but managed to score two goals in the final minutes of extra time.

Haji Wright and Ellis Simms, who scored a brace, secured their team's spot in the next round.

Modest Coventry reaches the semifinals of the FA Cup for only the second time. The first time they reached this far was in the 1986-87 season. Interestingly, it was during that season that the Sky Blues won this trophy for the only time in their history.

In 1967, Coventry won the Championship, twice they were winners of the third division, and they also won the English Football League trophy in 2017.
