Is There a Conflict? Postecoglou Explains Early Substitution of Son Heung-min in Aston Villa Match Ryan Pierse/Getty Images

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has clarified his decision to substitute Son Heung-min early in the second half of their 3-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa in Round 10.

The South Korean appeared visibly shocked by the decision, looking puzzled as his number went up on the fourth official's board, and then showing clear frustration as he took his seat on the bench.

Details: However, according to Postecoglou, the substitution was planned, as the Spurs' star had recently returned from an injury.

Quote: "I didn’t need to discuss it with him. What’s more important is the bigger picture. Today, he wasn’t supposed to play more because he’d been injured recently. So, the plan was for him not to exceed 55–60 minutes, regardless of how the game unfolded.

The main thing is he made a valuable contribution—an excellent pass for our first goal, and we leveled the score. We’ve got many battles ahead, and we’ll need him," the manager explained.

Recap: Spurs came back from a halftime deficit to secure a comeback victory over Villa, scoring four goals in response.

Following today’s win, Tottenham has reached 16 points, placing Postecoglou’s team in seventh on the table.
