Is the race already over? Real Madrid believe their superstar has won the Ballon d'Or
A sensational claim has emerged just three days before the Ballon d'Or ceremony. Real Madrid reportedly believe that Kylian Mbappé has already won the prestigious individual award, although the official result remains unknown.
Details: According to information attributed to journalist Rodra and shared by MatchDay Central, Real Madrid are now convinced that Mbappé will be crowned the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner. The claim emerged on October 23, ahead of Monday's ceremony in London. However, neither France Football nor the award organisers have officially confirmed the winner, and Madrid's reported confidence should not be mistaken for a verified voting result.
Mbappé has built an impressive case through his individual performances. During the 2025/26 season, the French forward scored 25 goals in LaLiga and 15 in the Champions League, finishing as the leading scorer in both competitions. He subsequently added ten goals at the 2026 World Cup, securing the tournament's Golden Boot despite France failing to reach the final.
The 27-year-old has publicly defended his candidacy, arguing that individual excellence deserves recognition even without major collective trophies. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois recently supported his teammate, stating that nobody had performed better individually. Meanwhile, reports from L'Équipe suggest Madrid intend to return to the Ballon d'Or ceremony after two years of tension with the organisers.
It's worth noting that the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place at London's Palladium on October 26. Mbappé is among four Real Madrid players nominated for the men's award, alongside Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham and Marc Cucurella. The Frenchman has never previously won the trophy, making a potential victory a historic personal milestone.
Reminder: Boycott over! Real Madrid set for huge Ballon d'Or return after two-year absence.
