Inter's primary goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, has decided to fully focus on club football.

Today, the seasoned shot-stopper officially announced his retirement from the Swiss national team, for which he has played for 12 years.

Sommer's final match for Switzerland was the quarter-final of the UEFA Euro 2024 against England, where Murat Yakin's side was eliminated in a penalty shootout.

In total, Sommer earned 94 caps for Switzerland. His crowning moment on the international stage was the victorious penalty shootout against France in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020.

Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund is expected to become Switzerland’s new first-choice goalkeeper.

On September 5th, Switzerland will play their first match of the new UEFA Nations League campaign against Denmark, followed by a clash with Spain three days later.
