A true power struggle has erupted at the top of Indian cricket, threatening the team’s internal stability.
Details: According to Indian Cricket, national team head coach Gautam Gambhir and the panel of chief selectors have engaged in a fierce behind-the-scenes battle over who will be India’s next T20I captain. Tensions have reached boiling point inside team management, with both sides refusing to compromise as they push for completely different candidates.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir is demanding radical changes within the squad’s structure and insists on handing the captain’s armband to Sanju Samson, whom he sees as the perfect leader for the new generation. However, the Chief Selectors’ Committee is firmly against this idea. The officials have blocked the coach’s proposal, as they see only Shreyas Iyer at the helm—a player they believe commands greater international authority.
A split at the top could have a direct impact on the players’ preparations for the upcoming crucial tournaments.
Reminder: Shreyas Iyer is reportedly close to leading the Mumbai Indians squad.
