Inter Miami's Bold Offer: Ownership for Messi and a Loan Option Elsewhere
Inter Miami has made a groundbreaking proposal to retain Lionel Messi while offering him a pathway to play elsewhere. According to Doble Amarilla, the club presented the Argentine star with a contract extension that includes two exceptional clauses: a chance to become a minority shareholder and the option to be loaned out during league breaks.
The talks began in January, and nearly a month ago, Messi received a formal one-year offer. With Jorge and José Más and David Beckham at the helm, the club intends to finalize the deal after the upcoming Club World Cup in July to maintain focus on the tournament.
The first clause would allow Messi to assume a long-term ambassadorial and ownership role within the club without clashing with his current commercial or institutional commitments. The second clause, supported by MLS regulations, enables Messi to be loaned out during inactive periods, provided he meets a minimum game threshold in the league.
This setup could allow the Argentine to stay match-fit and competitive with another club from October to the 2026 World Cup. Potential destinations include Newell's Old Boys or a return to Barcelona, though no club has been confirmed.
The proposal aligns with broader interests from MLS, Inter Miami, and the World Cup organizing committee, all eager for Messi to serve as the face of the tournament on American soil.
