INEOS issue statement on Jim Ratcliffe’s apology following migrant remarks
One of Manchester United’s owners, Jim Ratcliffe, found himself at the centre of controversy over his comments on the United Kingdom’s migration policy. He has now issued an apology.
Details: INEOS released a statement regarding Ratcliffe’s apology, in which he expressed regret that his words had offended some people in the United Kingdom and across Europe, causing concern.
Quote: “I regret that my choice of language offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern, but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.
My comments were made in response to a question about UK policy at the European Industry Summit in Antwerp, where I was discussing the importance of economic growth, jobs, skills and manufacturing in Britain.
I intended to emphasise that governments must manage migration alongside investment in skills, industry and jobs to ensure that long-term prosperity is shared by all. It is vital that we maintain open debate about the challenges facing the United Kingdom,” the statement reads.
Reminder: The 73-year-old billionaire, who has lived in Monaco since 2020, had claimed that the United Kingdom had been colonised by immigrants, allegedly causing catastrophic damage to the country’s economy.
