Independiente Request to Postpone Copa Argentina Match Against Gimnasia de Mendoza
Independiente have formally requested a postponement of their Copa Argentina Round of 32 clash against Gimnasia de Mendoza, originally scheduled for June 4. According to TyC Sports, the Avellaneda club made the decision following their penalty shootout loss to Huracán in the Apertura semifinal, aiming to better manage a demanding stretch of fixtures.
Julio Vaccari’s team still has to play Nacional this Wednesday in the final round of the Copa Sudamericana group stage. Adding to the scheduling complications is the upcoming FIFA international window, which will see key players unavailable: striker Gabriel Ávalos has been called up by Paraguay, while Felipe Loyola and Luciano Cabral will join the Chilean national team. Should the current date remain unchanged, Independiente would face the Mendoza side with a significantly weakened lineup.
The request has been submitted to the Copa Argentina organizers, and a decision is expected soon. With Deportivo Riestra already through to the next round, the tournament bracket is taking shape, though this matchup remains unresolved. Independiente hopes for a rescheduled date that allows them to regroup and compete under fairer conditions.
