Independiente Poised to Beat Boca to Walter Mazzantti Signing

Independiente are on the verge of signing Huracán forward Walter Mazzantti, edging out Boca Juniors in a sudden turn of events. According to Infobae, the Avellaneda-based club reached a $3.5 million agreement with Huracán and Huachipato, who each own 50% of the player’s economic rights.
The deal will see $2 million go to Huracán and $1.5 million to Chile’s Huachipato. Mazzantti, 28, had been closely followed by Boca, with manager Miguel Ángel Russo reportedly requesting the winger’s arrival. Initial talks between Boca and Huracán had taken place, but Independiente moved swiftly to secure the transfer.
Speaking to D Sports shortly before the development, Mazzantti admitted he was uncertain about his future but flattered by Boca’s interest. “It’s nice to be wanted by a club like Boca, but I’d also like to play abroad. I try not to overthink it, but I am anxious to know where I’ll end up,” he said.
Independiente are also finalizing the arrival of right-back Leonardo Godoy, who played alongside Neymar Jr. at Santos. He’ll be the first signing under coach Julio Vaccari, who led the team to the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 and narrowly missed the Apertura final.
