Independiente Pays for Mazzantti and Settles Part of Marcone’s Transfer Debt

Independiente continues to rebuild its financial standing ahead of a packed second half of 2025. As reported by Olé, the club paid the first installment of Walter Mazzantti’s transfer from Huracán and is set to wire one million euros to Elche to settle part of its debt for midfielder Iván Marcone.
The deal for Mazzantti, who joined from Huracán for approximately $3.5 million, includes a payment plan that began on Thursday. Independiente transferred $464,000 to Huracán and issued checks worth $600,000 for July’s installment. The remaining $1 million will be divided into three payments, scheduled for August, September, and October.
Unlike fellow newcomer Leonardo Godoy—who arrives from Brazil and must wait until July 7 to be registered via FIFA’s TMS—Mazzantti will be eligible to debut on June 29 in the Copa Argentina match against Gimnasia de Mendoza.
Meanwhile, the club will send Elche €1 million within 48 hours to reduce the outstanding balance from Marcone’s transfer. The remaining €1.3 million, inflated by interest, will be paid in January 2026. Marcone, a key figure in the current squad, has played 119 matches for Independiente, scoring once and providing three assists.
With the financial hurdles gradually being cleared, the Avellaneda side is setting the stage to compete in the Torneo Clausura, Copa Sudamericana, and Copa Argentina with renewed focus.
