Independiente Face Selection Doubts Ahead of Copa Argentina Clash with Gimnasia (M)

Independiente return to competitive action this Sunday with a Copa Argentina round-of-32 match against Gimnasia de Mendoza in San Luis. According to TyC Sports, manager Julio Vaccari has most of his lineup set, though key decisions in the attack remain unresolved.
Gabriel Ávalos is confirmed up front alongside Luciano Cabral, but three players — Santiago Montiel, Lautaro Millán, and Diego Tarzia — are vying for the final attacking spots. The equation could change if new signing Walter Mazzantti receives clearance in time. The club has completed payments to lift transfer bans via FIFA and is awaiting confirmation from creditors.
Mazzantti has impressed in early training sessions, but fellow newcomer Leonardo Godoy will not be eligible until July 7 due to international transfer restrictions imposed by TAS. Meanwhile, Álvaro Angulo will also be sidelined amid ongoing negotiations with Mexican side Pumas UNAM. His spot will be taken by youth product Jonathan De Irastorza.
Felipe Loyola remains doubtful with physical issues. The defense will feature captain Rodrigo Rey, Federico Vera, Kevin Lomónaco — whose strong form has drawn European attention — Nicolás Freire, and De Irastorza. In midfield, Iván Marcone and Pablo Galdames are set to start, with the rest of the lineup still taking shape.
