Incredible shot! Legendary Kevin Pietersen in awe of Virat Kohli’s magical stroke in IPL 2026 opener

The reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, kicked off their title defense in commanding fashion, thrashing Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The hosts were set a daunting target of 202, but thanks to a phenomenal performance from Virat Kohli, the match was wrapped up ahead of schedule.

Details: According to NDTV Sports, the standout moment of the evening was a stroke that instantly went viral across social media. On the fifth ball of the seventh over, after a delivery from Eshan Malinga, Kohli unleashed a flawless lofted straight drive. The ball, timed to perfection and executed with sheer elegance, sailed straight into the stands.

This moment had legendary England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was on commentary duty, showering Kohli with praise.

“To time a ball like that, you need a sense of timing that puts you in exactly the right place. Virat was right there. His elbow pointing to the sky, the ball struck right off the middle of the bat... He’s got something most don’t. What Virat Kohli possesses, you can’t simply buy in a store. It’s not for sale. He’s just that good,” Pietersen commented emotionally on the live broadcast.

Now, Bengaluru is preparing for their next match. Next Sunday, RCB will once again host Chennai Super Kings at home. With news of MS Dhoni’s injury, RCB’s chances of clinching a second straight win look quite promising.
