Following the conflict that erupted after the CAF Champions League match between Orlando Pirates and MC Algeria, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to open a new investigation.
In the match, which ended goalless and secured the Pirates’ advance to the semifinals with an aggregate score of 1-0, a brawl broke out on the field. An Algerian player was caught on video striking a Pirates official, which triggered a mass scuffle.
Additionally, after the final whistle, fans stormed the pitch, further exacerbating the situation. According to WinWin, the incidents were documented in the match commissioner’s report, which also noted clashes between fans and attempts by Algerian players to assault officials.
It is known that following the incident, the CAF Disciplinary Committee requested a security report from Orlando Pirates to determine the reasons behind the fan invasion. It is also reported that if all circumstances are confirmed, Algeria may face severe sanctions.
Recall that Algeria was already penalized for a similar incident in November 2024 in a match against the Tunisian club Monastir.
