A match between Ankaragücü and Rizespor, which took place in the 15th round of the Turkish Super Lig, ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the 14th minute, Ankaragücü managed to open the scoring thanks to a goal scored by Olimpiu Morutan. In the 50th minute, Ali Sowe received his second yellow card, reducing the home team to ten players. In injury time, a player from the visiting team was also sent off, but it didn't prevent Rizespor from securing a draw. Adolfo Gaich marked the crucial goal.

However, the main events unfolded after the match. Ankaragücü's president, Faruk Kodja, rushed onto the field and struck the head referee, Halil Umut Meler, in the eye. The referee fell to the turf, and later an unidentified person kicked him.

Justice Minister of Turkey, Yilmaz Tunc, reacted to this incident, stating that legal proceedings have commenced, and the incident is under review.

"After the conclusion of the Ankaragücü - Rizespor match, necessary reviews were initiated regarding those responsible for the attack on the match referee, Halil Umut Meler.

All suspects who entered the field after the Super League match and were involved in the act of violence against the match referee, as well as the fans who entered the field after the match, are charged with crimes related to violating the law.

An investigation has been initiated, and the Sports Management of the Provincial Police Department in Ankara has been given instructions to identify all suspects and submit them to the chief prosecutor's office.

The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Western Ankara has filed a case for crimes causing harm in connection with the performance of public duty, and instructions have been given to identify all suspects and take them into custody. The arrest of the club president, Faruk Kodja, who was in the hospital, has been ordered.

The investigation is ongoing in all its aspects, with the identification of other suspects. There should be no doubt that our judicial system will decide on the necessary sanctions against those who commit such misconduct that we do not want to see on our fields," - wrote the minister on his Twitter account.
