In Spain, 11 footballers cleared of anti-doping violations
The Spanish Anti-Doping Agency has decided to close cases involving 11 footballers who had failed doping tests.
Details: According to Relevo, between 2017 and 2021, 12 footballers were suspected of breaching anti-doping regulations. However, only one player, Raúl de Tomás of Rayo Vallecano, was found guilty. He was fined €3,000 and handed a one-month suspension.
As for the other cases, the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency acknowledged that the use of banned substances appeared to be justified by medical reasons. Reports indicate that the agency failed to adhere to proper protocols and regulatory standards.
In all these instances, only preliminary investigations were launched, and no disciplinary actions were pursued.
Additionally, it was noted that the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency lacked the authority to archive these 11 cases.
Reminder: Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo could leave the Catalan club as a free agent in January. Reports suggest his contract contains an intriguing clause.
