In search of playing time. Fati agrees to leave Barcelona

Barcelona is planning to free up space in the squad and cut down the wage bill this summer, and one of the players set to depart is 22-year-old Ansu Fati. In the 2024-25 season, he barely featured and, realizing he isn’t part of Hansi Flick’s plans, has agreed to a transfer.
The main contender for his signature is French side Monaco. According to Fabrizio Romano, the parties are close to an agreement: Fati will leave Catalonia on loan for the 2025-26 season with a buy option included. Should that option be exercised, Barcelona will retain a percentage of any future sale.
While the deal is unlikely to bring a significant sum to the Catalans, it’s crucial for the club to offload Fati’s salary commitments. His departure will also open the door to signing a new left winger—a top priority for sporting director Deco.
