We will now have a new WBO heavyweight world champion.

Details: Today, an official statement was published on the WBO boxing federation's page announcing that 38-year-old Ukrainian heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk has vacated his WBO world champion title.

Usyk was unable to fully recover from his injury in time to begin preparations for his next fight, leading him to relinquish the belt. It is reported that the interim titleholder, Fabio Wardley—who defeated Joseph Parker—will be elevated to WBO heavyweight world champion.

Previously, the WBO had mandated that Usyk defend his title against Wardley, but the Ukrainian opted for a different path.

Reminder: Official: The fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua will take place in December
