In the wake of the Ivory Coast Football Federation’s decision not to renew his contract, the Ivorian manager has broken his silence.

Emerse Faé has not been the manager of the Ivory Coast national team since Friday 31 July. His contract expired and was not renewed by the Ivorian Football Federation.

A decision that came as a surprise to the former Ivorian international, particularly as discussions regarding an extension were underway. In an interview with L’Equipe, Emerse Faé expressed his disappointment whilst stating that he respected the Federation’s decision

“After the World Cup, we were in talks about an extension. But on Friday morning, the officials called me to tell me that, in the end, there would be no extension, without giving any further explanation.

I’m naturally disappointed, but I accept this decision. The president and I were, after all, already preparing for the next training camp. I remain grateful to the Federation for giving me my chance, even though I had no professional experience.

This team has immense potential, and I’m frustrated that I won’t be able to continue the work we’d started to take Ivory Coast even further.”
