"I'm afraid for his life": Chris Eubank Sr. speaks about his son's fight with Conor Benn
Chris Eubank Sr., father of boxer Chris Eubank Jr., has expressed deep concerns about his son's upcoming fight with Conor Benn, The Sun reports. Eubank Sr. believes that Chris Jr. is putting his life at risk by participating in the bout.
The fight was initially scheduled for 2022 but was postponed after Benn failed drug tests, leading to his temporary suspension from boxing. Eubank Sr. admitted he never thought the fight would happen.
"My son, if he had taken that fight where they tried to boil him down to 157, would have lost his life," Eubank Sr. stated.
It’s important to note that Eubank Sr.’s older son, Sebastian, tragically passed away from a heart attack in 2023 at just 29 years old. Understandably, the elder Eubank is now deeply concerned for his younger son’s safety and well-being.
Eubank Sr. has also been highly critical of boxing promoters, accusing them of prioritizing profits over the lives and safety of fighters.
He cited the example of Paul Bamba, who died at the age of 35 just six days after winning the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title. Bamba had lost 10 kg in a matter of days for the fight, a drastic weight cut that had irreversible consequences for his health.
