I’ll Be Supporting the Super Eagles in the Playoffs – Rohr
Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has thrown his support behind Nigeria’s Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs.
After failing to qualify automatically, Nigeria reached the playoffs as one of the four best third-placed teams and will battle Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo for Africa’s final World Cup slot. The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-final, with the winner set to play either Cameroon or DR Congo in the decisive final match.
Speaking to Brila FM ahead of the playoffs, Rohr praised the strength of his former team despite Benin’s 4-0 defeat to them in Uyo. “Super Eagles have so many high level players and strikers, we tried against them but we could not do it,” he said. “We beat them during the qualifiers and it’s a result we were proud of but I will be supporting the Super Eagles in the playoffs.”
Rohr, who guided Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON, said he remains proud of his time with the team and hopes to see them return to football’s biggest stage.
