Iliman Ndiaye sets out Senegal’s ambitions for the FIFA World Cup
The Lions of Teranga dream of bringing Africa its first title on the world stage.
Senegal is preparing for its World Cup opener on Tuesday 16 June. Pape Thiaw’s side will kick off the tournament against France in Group I. But ahead of this eagerly anticipated clash, Iliman Ndiaye has set out Senegal’s ambitions.
In an interview with France Football, the Senegalese player emphasised that Senegal has what it takes to compete with the world’s footballing giants. Consequently, the Lions of Teranga are aiming to make history following Morocco’s impressive run at the 2022 World Cup.
“Senegal is eagerly awaiting the World Cup, as we have a clear objective: to become world champions. African football is turning a corner; it’s reaching a new level. Morocco broke through a glass ceiling in 2022 with their run to the semi-finals. We felt it when we faced big nations like England; we look anyone straight in the eye. We really want the World Cup in Africa.”
