Iheanacho Still Weeks Away as Celtic Battle Injury Crisis
Celtic head coach Martin O’Neill has given an update on Kelechi Iheanacho’s fitness as the champions prepare to face St. Mirren in the SPFL tonight. The Nigerian striker has been out for a month after picking up a hamstring injury during the Europa League match against Sturm Graz. He has not featured since, and there is still no clear return date.
Despite his absence, Celtic have managed three wins in their last five games across all competitions, though they remain seven points behind leaders Hearts.
O’Neill confirmed that the team is still dealing with multiple injury setbacks. Cameron Carter-Vickers is ruled out for the season after rupturing his Achilles. “Carter will be out for the whole season… we will not see him,” O’Neill said, adding that April might be the earliest he returns to training.
He also revealed that James Forrest is still sidelined, while Iheanacho has only just resumed light gym work and “wouldn’t be ready for this.” Defender Alistair Johnston will miss four to five months, and Callum Osmand faces a similar timeline. “Obviously, Jota is out now. I’ll not see him,” he added.
O’Neill hopes some players may return for the Hibs fixture, “if they don’t make the Feyenoord game.”
