Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has refuted claims that the federation had a hand in selecting the Super Eagles’ final squad released by head coach Eric Chelle.

The announcement of the squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) sparked mixed reactions across the football space, with fans and analysts questioning some of the choices and alleging possible influence from the NFF.

Reacting to the growing speculation, Gusau spoke on Eagles FM Radio, where he categorically stated that coaches of Nigeria’s national teams operate independently when it comes to player selection. He stressed that the federation does not impose players or interfere with technical decisions.

According to the NFF president, the responsibility of choosing players lies solely with the coaching crew, while the federation focuses on providing the necessary support for success.

“I have never told any coach, across all our national teams, which player they should invite or drop,” Gusau said.
