Lionel Messi shared his thoughts on records and statistics in football.
Details: In an interview with SportCenter, the legendary footballer revealed that records have never particularly interested him, and he has never chased after them.
"I don't think I need to make an assist or score a goal just to break a record or surpass someone. Nowadays, people are too obsessed with numbers and statistics, but personally, I'm not really interested in stats," Messi admitted.
The footballer emphasized that, for him, the process of playing is far more important:
"I live for the game, I enjoy it, I love being decisive and actively involved in the match. But I don't play for records and I've never attached importance to that."
Messi also stated that he has never set a goal to score or assist just for the sake of statistical achievements:
"Everything happened naturally, as a result of the game, not because I was thinking I need to make an assist or score to reach a record. It all just happened because it happened," Messi added.
Reminder: Lionel Messi explained why winning the World Cup is incredibly difficult.
