Yesterday’s offside call against Ismaïla Sarr was one of the most controversial in football history.

Details: In yesterday’s Premier League matchday 29 clash between Tottenham and Crystal Palace, the visiting side’s Ismaïla Sarr was judged offside by VAR in an unusual fashion, leading to his goal being ruled out.

The controversy stemmed from Sarr’s nose being the part in an offside position—a body part which, according to the rules, must be considered when determining offside. Reacting to what he saw in the match, 28-year-old Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Barcelona, said he’s glad to have left England and now plays in Spain, where such situations don’t occur:

"Seeing that 'nose offside' on Ismaïla Sarr just makes me think of Ibra. He’d have a tough time staying onside with VAR checking the length of your nose! Glad to be playing in La Liga where we can focus on the football," Rashford said in an interview.

Rashford, a Manchester United academy product, spent most of his career in England. However, Barcelona is now trying to secure his services on a permanent deal.

This season, Rashford has featured in 36 matches for Barcelona, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists. His loan agreement with the Blaugrana expires this summer.
