Victor Osimhen has spoken warmly about Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone after a 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at RAMS Park. The Super Eagles striker played the full 90 minutes, easing injury fears after limping off during Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 semi-final against Morocco. Although he failed to score, Osimhen troubled the Atletico defence, creating two clear chances and earning praise from Simeone for his strength and intensity.

Speaking after the game, Osimhen returned the respect, saying, “I love Diego Simeone; I've always been a fan of him… They play aggressively and have a clear identity.” He added that “even getting a draw against them shows that you're on the right track.” Osimhen has previously been linked with Atletico before now.
