“I grew up in Little Hell”. Antony explains why he felt no pressure from the Man United transfer
Antony, a Manchester United footballer currently playing for Spanish side Betis, revealed in an interview with DAZN why he felt no pressure from his multi-million transfer to England.
The Brazilian admitted that he grew up in a favela called Inferninho, which translates to Little Hell. There, he had to deal with drug dealers and other horrific situations. As an 8-9 year old child, he could see dead bodies right on the streets. All this made him insensitive to many things.
"When I’m asked about pressure, I say ‘what pressure?’ I faced pressure in the favela when I didn’t have shoes to play, I played against drug traffickers and everything. That was real pressure. When I left in the morning to go to school I often didn’t eat. So when I go through difficult moments I always think about the challenges that I overcame in the past," Antony stated.
Now, Antony feels very comfortable in Spain, considering his move to Betis the best possible decision he could have made.
