Hurt and Hope at the Emirates: Arokodare Breaks Silence
Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare has spoken out after a dramatic night at the Emirates Stadium that mixed personal joy with deep frustration. The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward scored his first Premier League goal with a 90th-minute equaliser against leaders Arsenal, only for Wolves to lose moments later.
Arokodare, omitted from Nigeria’s AFCON squad by coach Eric Chelle, had faced criticism and debate back home. On Saturday, he answered on the pitch. Arsenal dominated possession but struggled to break down a stubborn Wolves defence. When the opener arrived, it came through a deflection that handed the hosts the lead, with the match eventually decided by two Wolves own goals.
With time running out, Arokodare struck to silence the home crowd, raising hopes of a famous draw. Those hopes were crushed when Bukayo Saka’s cross was turned into the net by Yerson Mosquera.
After the game, the 24-year-old did not hide his pain. “It is hurtful… It has been happening to us all season… we have to start focused until the final whistle,” he said. He vowed to keep pushing.
