Hugo Broos Fires Up Bafana Bafana for Pivotal World Cup Qualifiers! Hugo Broos Fires Up Bafana Bafana for Pivotal World Cup Qualifiers!

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is sticking with his trusted squad as South Africa prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.

Bafana’s Recent Progress and Challenges Ahead

South Africa has been on an upward trajectory under Broos, securing back-to-back AFCON qualifications and finishing third in the recent tournament. They now shift focus to the World Cup qualifiers, where they sit second in Group C with seven points.

Broos emphasized the importance of mentality over talent in the upcoming matches.

“Lesotho will fight for every meter, and Benin gave us trouble before. The circumstances have changed, but mentality will be key,” he said.

Broos Defends Mofokeng Amid Dip in Form

One of Broos' notable selections is Orlando Pirates' young star Relebohile Mofokeng. Despite a slight dip in form, the coach remains confident in his ability. “He’s only 20 and still adapting to high expectations. I won’t drop him because of a temporary dip—he needs support to push through,” Broos stated.

Mofokeng has been instrumental for Pirates, tallying eight goals and 12 assists this season. His inclusion highlights Broos’ long-term vision for Bafana.

Key Fixtures & Preparation

Bafana will host Lesotho at Peter Mokaba Stadium on March 21 before flying to Côte d’Ivoire to face Benin a few days later. The team will assemble in Johannesburg on March 17 and camp in Polokwane before the home fixture.

Broos praised the improvements at Peter Mokaba Stadium, ensuring no excuses for poor results.

“The pitch is fantastic, and people did great work. We need to deliver,” he said.
