Horrific tragedy: 16-year-old goalkeeper in Brazil dies after saving a shot with his chest
Teenage goalkeeper Edson Lopez tragically passed away after being struck in the chest by a football during a training session with his local team in Brazil, The Sun reports.
A video of the incident shows Lopez diving to block a shot, successfully deflecting it with his chest before collapsing to the ground in visible pain.
He was rushed to the hospital, but due to the remote location of his hometown, Maués, deep in the Amazon rainforest, the journey took a grueling 11 hours on rural roads. Tragically, Lopez succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
The untimely death has shocked his family and the local community. Lopez was known to lead an active lifestyle and had no known heart conditions, leaving many to wonder about the underlying cause of this devastating incident.

At his funeral, family members carried his coffin while wearing jerseys of Grêmio, Lopez’s favorite football club.
His brother, Eloimar, paid a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing Edson as a wonderful person. His message was met with an outpouring of condolences and support from friends and the wider community.
