Honduras has landed in the Cayman Islands ahead of Saturday’s pivotal qualifier, looking to seal a spot in the final phase of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. According to El Heraldo, the team departed Comayagua via charter flight with a full squad and a clear mission: keep their perfect run alive.

Head coach Reinaldo Rueda finalized his starting lineup during the last training session at the Estadio Nacional. Honduras currently leads Group A with six points, following dominant wins over Bermuda (6-1) and Cuba (4-1) in the previous qualifying window. One more victory would secure their passage to the next round.

“We’re playing for a place at the World Cup, and that carries a responsibility,” said forward Anthony Lozano. He emphasized the need for focus and respect toward their opponent, mindful of past struggles in similar away matches, like the first half in Bermuda last year.

Midfielder Kervin Arriaga, who plays for Zaragoza in Spain, echoed that sentiment: “We’re motivated, we’ve prepared well, and we’re excited to start with a win.” Arriaga is also set to make his first Gold Cup appearance and said his goal is team success: “Not for Kervin to shine, but for Honduras to perform well.”

The squad will inspect the pitch at Truman Bodden Stadium on Friday, amid concerns over its poor playing conditions.
