Egypt are taking on Belgium in their opening Group Stage match at the FIFA World Cup, and the Pharaohs’ biggest star has matched a remarkable record.
Details: Mohamed Salah provided an assist in the match. According to Opta, he became the first African player since 1966 to register a goal contribution at a FIFA World Cup on his birthday.
The Egyptian winger turned 34 during the tournament. His national team still has matches against New Zealand and Iran to come.
As a reminder: Spain’s forward also rewrote the tournament’s history by matching an unwanted record that had stood since 1966.
