The pinnacle of motorsport is close to making its long-awaited return to the African continent after a lengthy absence.

Details: The Formula 1 World Championship could officially return to Africa in 2030 with a race in Rwanda. It would be the first African event on the calendar since 1993. This was reported by specialist motorsport outlet Racing News 365.

The initiative is being actively championed by Rwanda's president, Paul Kagame, who has been consulting with motorsport chiefs for several years. A key foundation for the negotiations was the International Automobile Federation (FIA) General Assembly, which the country successfully hosted in 2024, declaring its readiness to stage a top-tier event.

According to reports, the future permanent racing circuit will be located 40 kilometers from Kigali, in close proximity to the new Bugesera International Airport. The track project is currently in the detailed design phase and will meet the strictest international safety standards.

It is worth noting that, if the project is successfully completed, Formula 1 cars will return to an African circuit for the first time in 37 years since the 1993 South African Grand Prix. The only other country on the continent to host the pinnacle of motorsport was Morocco, back in 1958.

Reminder: It has happened! Max Verstappen takes first place in the race in Malaysia!
