Manchester City's highly anticipated trip to Anfield has sparked serious security concerns.

Details: According to The Sun, Merseyside Police are on high alert ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester City on Sunday, October 11, amid fears that visiting players could face another attack on their team bus.

The concerns intensified after a social media post circulated among Liverpool supporters, calling for a massive bus greeting near Anfield before kick-off. Fans were encouraged to bring flags, banners and pyrotechnics.

Police have confirmed they are aware of the message and insist that appropriate security measures will be implemented. The situation brings back unpleasant memories of 2018, when Liverpool supporters attacked City's bus with bricks and bottles ahead of their Champions League quarter-final.

The vehicle suffered such extensive damage that it could not be used for the return journey to Manchester. Similar incidents involving objects thrown at the bus were also reported in 2014 and 2022.

Sunday's encounter will be City's first match since an independent commission found the club guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial regulations. Manchester City have appealed the decision, and no final sporting punishment has been imposed.

It's worth noting that Manchester City currently lead the Premier League with 15 points after winning all five of their opening matches, while Liverpool sit sixth with nine points.
