Here we go! Real Madrid beat Barcelona to the signing of 19-year-old talent
Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martínez from Racing Santander. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee will be €3 million, while the player's contract with the Madrid club will run until 2030.
Martínez will join Real Madrid immediately and will not return to Racing on loan. The young Spaniard also turned down offers from English, German and Saudi clubs, choosing instead to continue his career at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It is particularly noteworthy that the transfer has come almost immediately after Racing's promotion to La Liga. The Santander club returned to Spain's top flight for the first time in many years, while Martínez managed to make his top-flight debut and immediately scored a goal.
Barcelona were also interested in the 19-year-old, but the player ultimately chose Real Madrid. Journalist Mario Cortegana reported the development.
Real Madrid have therefore agreed a deal to sign one of Racing's most promising players. For Martínez, the move to the Spanish giants represents a major step forward after his impressive start to life in La Liga.
